VoteClimate Sept 2024: Needed More Than Ever & What Comes Next

Dear [Name],

We hope you've enjoyed a good summer break and are refreshed to continue pressing the new UK government to take the urgent action required on climate.

Clearly, Labour has far better climate policies than the last lot. But, it turns out, not enough better. Our ground-breaking analysis of party manifestos at the last election shows that, even if they do everything they promised, Labour will lead the UK headlong into emitting our share of 1.5C of warming by 2034, rather than 2050:
Party Manifestos vs Net Zero

This is not acceptable ambition.

What Can We Do?

The case for VoteClimate's unique work remains as strong as ever.

With your help we need to push Labour to go further and faster. A new government, that at least acknowledges the climate crisis, gives hope that our actions have a chance of success.

We'll be pushing forward with the following initiatives and we're asking you to stand with us: let's give it our best shot.

  • Holding Labour To Account - Every 6 months we'll review which of Labour's promises have been fulfilled. We'll use that to update our analysis of the quantitative impact on the UK's progress towards Net Zero. This will empower you to hold Labour to account locally and nationally.
  • Devolved Assemblies - Have huge influence on CO2 emissions. We'll analyse the party manifestos for those elections and tell our members in Scotland, Wales & NI the strongest vote for climate.
  • Local Elections - We will seek out marginal council wards where our members have a chance to swing the result in favour of a party with ambitious climate policies.
  • Promote VoteClimate - We had a huge influx of new members at the last general election. We need to promote VoteClimate through the climate-activist community and far beyond, so that, come the next general election, we are in the strongest position to persuade the main parties for action. Every member counts!
  • Allied Organisations - We will continue to work to support Chris Packham, the Green Party, Greenpeace, FoE, XR, Zero Hour and others with analysis, data and promotion that helps them towards the shared actions and outcomes that VoteClimate strives for.

We continue to track how MPs are voting, speaking and posting on climate matters, publishing that data live, so that you can hold our parliamentarians to account and pressure them into doing better.

What Can You Do?

  • Our greatest immediate need is for help with social media: can you or anyone you know support us with some time as a social-media volunteer?
  • Can you make a regular donation to help fund a full-time team (we are all volunteers on a tiny budget today) and pay for promotion?
