The last Labour Government acted on Scotland’s green energy potential. The amount of onshore wind capacity increased sevenfold, and our Government launched support for offshore wind, which was a brilliant success. I was excited to work on some of Scotland’s first offshore wind projects. Brian Wilson, the then Labour Minister and Scottish Labour MP, who put so much of this in place, left a brilliant legacy. That shows the positive power of a Labour Government and Scottish Labour MPs fighting for Scotland year in, year out and day in, day out. The last Labour Government left Scotland and Great Britain with a thriving renewable energy supply chain and industry—the ideal foundations for the road to net zero.

Exciting to see the UK government supporting floating offshore wind and tidal. Our government is securing long-term supplies of cheap green energy and investing in technologies of the future. This means more jobs for Scotland. https://www.theguardian.com/business/article/2024/sep/03/renewable-energy-auction-windfarms-tidal-power [Source]

Good to visit @ChivasNewsRoom Strathclyde Distillery this morning. Great example of Brand Scotland in action, with significant and innovative investment being made to reach Net Zero. https://twitter.com/johnadgrady/status/1827020063477543230/photo/1 [Source]

Whilst the SNP, Greens and Alba knock seven bells out of each other: ???????????????????????????? People in Glasgow cannot afford the basics. ????????????????????????????We have no serious path to Net Zero. ????????????????????????????Almost 1 in 6 Scots are on NHS waiting lists. Scotland needs serious, competent government. We need change. https://twitter.com/AnasSarwar/status/1783462813022761334 [Source]

Brilliant sunshine today. It's a privilege to listen to voters in Crosshill. Lots of good discussions about the environment and cost of electricity and gas. @ScottishLabour is determined to get Scotland to net zero and get bills down. https://twitter.com/johnadgrady/status/1761405208645554525/photo/1 [Source]

Essential to replace old windfarms with higher output more efficient new ones. This = cheaper energy + progress to net zero + good jobs + displacing gas. Good article in today’s FT about this in Europe - many barriers are similar in GB. https://www.ft.com/content/7f742d23-673b-47d3-9ce9-64fa5d322abe via @ft [Source]

Good to talk too about the legacy of Brian Wilson - a brilliant Energy Minister in the last Labour Government and an Ayrshire Labour MP. Brian's work laid the foundations for the massive success of GB renewable energy. Scottish Labour MPs make a decisive difference. [Source]

An honour to speak at #ScotLab24 on a fairer greener future. Scottish Labour MPs in power at Westminster will deliver the high quality jobs and lower bills we all need. In power we will deliver a just transition for Scotland. https://twitter.com/johnadgrady/status/1758466364220567967/photo/1 [Source]
