  • 26 Mar 2024 @therewentharry Labour did a big announcement about green energy yesterday, assuming you mean that climate change is greatest threat, which we agree with. [Source]
  • 21 Jul 2023 @AntacsB I'm not convinced ULEZ is "effective anti climate crisis politics". It looks like tokenistic tinkering at the edges that alienates people to me. We need more carrots and fewer sticks when it comes to getting people to change mode or emissions of transport. [Source]
  • 04 Oct 2021 @mod_soc_dem I'm sure there are 7-9% who would vote Green if we had a different electoral system. I'm also sure that under FPTP it will get squeezed down to a max of 4%. And I think much of their increase is down to public concern about climate change, not left anti-Starmerism. [Source]
  • 28 Apr 2021 If elected on 6 May 2021, I'll work to make the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill law to: 1. Limit global temperature rise to 1.5C 2. Restore our natural world 3. Involve citizens in the just transition to a zero-carbon society. @CEEBill_NOW https://www.ceebill.uk/candidate_sign_up_pledge?recruiter_id=17984 [Source]
  • 03 Feb 2021 @OwenJones84 Everyone in the Labour Party knows the basics of what we want to do with power - redistribute wealth, return to well funded public services, tackle climate change, rebuild manufacturing, reduce poverty and inequality. Problem is that package isn't necessarily enough to win power. [Source]
  • 31 May 2020 @bitvictim I can imagine ways of saving the environment that are compatible with markets and property rights. I can also imagine post capitalist economic systems that are crap at tackling climate change. It's human over consumption of resources that's the problem, not the economic system. [Source]
  • 31 May 2020 @bitvictim Not sure you can blame the climate catastrophe solely on capitalism - communist countries belched out CO2 from state owned tractor and tank factories for 70 years and achieved their own environmental disasters like the Aral Sea shrinking. [Source]
  • 25 Feb 2020 @sensiblehuman96 @Keir_Starmer @lisanandy @IanMurrayMP @DrRosena @AngelaRayner @JohannaBaxter @gsjosan He seems to have a pretty robust record on the issue https://www.ianmurraymp.com/westminster/2019/11/05/climate-change-bulletin/ "Back in 2013, I presented a Private Members Bill which would have decarbonised the UK energy market by 2030. It has now been six years since I warned of the climate emergency" [Source]
  • 25 Feb 2020 @sensiblehuman96 @Keir_Starmer @lisanandy @IanMurrayMP @DrRosena @AngelaRayner @JohannaBaxter @gsjosan Keir pledge: "Put the Green New Deal at the heart of everything we do. There is no issue more important to our future than the climate emergency. A Clean Air Act to tackle pollution locally. Demand international action on climate rights." [Source]
  • 02 Jan 2020 @MarkWallaceGlos @GeorgeFoulkes It's a very dry country getting drier w climate change. There is a lot of woodland, including eucalyptus which has flammable oil in it. Huge fires are usually extinguished by rainfall and it isn't due to rain in New South Wales for another month. [Source]
  • 02 Jan 2020 @GeorgeFoulkes I was reading today that part of the problem is that climate change is making the Australian and California fire seasons merge with each other which is breaking down an old pattern of sharing firefighters and equipment. [Source]
  • 02 Jan 2020 @patrickamon @SianySE @iamhamesh @JadeFrancesAzim You don't think politicians with gravitas would want to tackle climate change? [Source]
  • 31 Dec 2019 A state strong enough to take the huge actions needed to tackle climate change and poverty but not so strong as to erode personal freedoms [Source]
